Owners Ross and Kirstie McGrail have only been involved with miniature horses after seeing them at an Equine Expo in Hamilton in 2004. They both come from thoroughbred racing backgrounds - Kirstie in a very much hands on way starting in racing stables from when she left school through to foal watching on thoroughbred studs right up until 2006. Ross however has been more involved in the administration side of racing starting as a photographer on race day through to working for Harness Racing NZ. They are both still currently very much involved in racing but now in the totally different code of greyhounds!
They started Razyana Miniature Horse Stud when they moved from Cambridge in 2006 and now have 11 horses on their farm on the outskirts of Te Awamutu. In the 2009/2010 show season they showed 2 horses under their Razyana Stud banner for the first time with great success - They are especially proud of their chestnut frame overo colt 'Razyana Lucky Hit The Jackpot' who performed very consistently throughout the show season and was placed in the top 5 in every class he entered at the 2010 Nationals. “Jack’ will stand at stud at Razyana in 2011.
The stud is now also the very proud owner of 'Bluegables Monarchs Outlaw’ recently purchased from Sherwood Stud.” Outlaw” has settled in beautifully at Razyana and Ross and Kirstie are very excited about using him over some of their mares and also opening him up to a few select outside horses. They will also continue to use the best outside stallions possible to ensure they continue their quest for outstanding quality and colour in the miniature horses they breed.
